History
Riverside Area Youth Soccer League was established in 1981 following on the heels of soccer's increased popularity throughout the United States, giving Riverside students direct access to recreational soccer for the first time. RAYSL was started in September when Chuck and Carol Kotuby along with Quinton Parker, Dave Scopolite, and Donnie and Linda Tindall formed the initial organization. During the inaugural season, more than 105 players ages 6 to 13 registered to play soccer. In the spring of 1982 they joined PA West and had the first U12 and U14 co-ed traveling teams.
The organization continued to grow and at one point had approximately 180 athletes playing soccer. Chuck and Carol Kotuby ran the organization for nine years and during that time Carol earned her U.S. Youth Soccer Coaching Certification and became the Varsity Girls Coach at Quaker Valley High School. The success of the RAYSL organization lead to the start of the Riverside High School Boys’ and Girls’ Soccer Teams in the early 1990s. RAYSL grew in the 1990's under the direction of the late Terry Pettner and his wife Tonya and the organization continued to thrive with the help of many volunteers over the years.
RAYSL partnered with the Beaver County Recreation and Tourism Department to create our current home at Brush Creek Park, in Marion Township.
Today
The Club now serves over 200 families representing over 220 players in the Riverside Area with 120 players in our recreational program and 7 teams comprised of 100 players in our travel program.
The Club offers young children a chance to learn in a recreational, but stimulating environment. Learning to love the game while having fun is the core of our recreational program. As those players grow, the Club seeks to develop academically motivated, hard-working young adults who excel in the technical aspects of the game. The lessons and habits, but more importantly the camaraderie and friendship developed by our teams and Club can last players a lifetime.
